Applications used in the migration process

As you migrate configuration content, you use several applications to perform migration tasks.

You use the following applications in the migration process:
Application Usage

Object Structures

Optional.

You can use the Object Structures application to view, create, and modify an object structure. One or more related business objects comprise an object structure. A business object is an object-relational representation that corresponds to a database table of the product.

The predefined object structures support many product configuration applications, and you can perform many migrations by using the provided structures.

Automation Scripts

Optional.

You can create scripts for integration in the Automation Scripts application to apply custom logic during the processing of object structures when you perform migrations.

Migration Groups

Optional.

You use the Migration Groups application to organize and group configuration content that you want to migrate.

In many situations, you can work with the predefined (internal) migration groups instead of creating your own (user-defined) migration groups.

Migration Collections

You use the Migration Collections application to define migration collections.

A migration collection is a group of configuration records that can be migrated to another environment. Migration collections simplify the creation of package definitions.

Migration Manager

You use the Migration Manager application to migrate your configuration content between product environments. You use this application in both your source and target environments. In a source environment, you define, create, and distribute the packages. In a target environment, you preview and deploy the packages.
