Service items overview
Service items are services that your company requisitions,
such as grounds maintenance or plant security. You can prorate service
items, set status for service items, create measurement units, and
maintain service items as part of the item set.
Prorated service items
Adding service items to the cost of a particular item increases the stocked item average cost. To avoid this increase, you can add the service item to issue on receipt items only.
Service item statuses
You can manage the status for a service item for all related records. The system uses a set of inheritance rules to apply changes to a service item from a higher level to a lower level. In the Service Item application, a change to a service item status is applied to the organization level.
Tax-exempt status
The tax-exempt option indicates whether an item, a tool, or a service is taxable. You might want to set the tax-exempt status, depending on where an item or a service is acquired, and how an item or a service is used.
Measurement units and conversion factors
A unit of measure describes the quantity used to measure an item, tool, or a service. You use a unit of measure to measure the items and services that you order, issue, and transfer. Examples of units of measure include EACH, CASE, IN (inches), and ROLL.
Item sets
Item sets let multiple organizations within a company view and choose from a common set of items stocked in the storeroom. An organization can be associated with only one item set. However, multiple organizations can use the same item set.
