Rotating assets
A rotating asset is an interchangeable asset that you can move in and out of service as needed. The term applies to assets that can be repaired or refurbished rather than replaced.
Rotating assets can be items such as pumps and motors, fire extinguishers, motors and transmissions, and notebook computers and network printers.
Before a rotating asset can be created, you must define the item in the Item Master application. You create rotating assets in the Assets application or by receiving a purchase order that contains a rotating asset.
Item number
A rotating asset has an item number, which can be used to track the rotating asset as it moves from one storeroom to another or to a repair facility. By using an asset number and an item number, you can track identical assets individually or with their shared item number as a group.
Example
A company might have 50 identical fire extinguishers (the same model from the same manufacturer) that have the same item number. Each fire extinguisher has a unique asset number. You can use the asset number to track information such as when the asset was purchased, when it was inspected, and when it must be replaced.
