Items
You can add or import items to your master item list on the All Items page. Items can then be added to storerooms and managed as inventory.
Instead of using the All Items page within the work center, you can also use the Item Master application to define items that are stocked in your storerooms. For more information, see Item Master.
Storage and uniqueness of item data
All items belong to an item set. Item sets are at a level above the level for organizations. This means that in an item set, multiple organizations can share item data. You do not see item set information unless your company uses more than one item set.
Item numbering
When you add items, they are automatically numbered, but you can edit the identifiers. Identifiers must be unique at the item set level.
An administrator can specify the seeds and prefixes for automatically numbered items in the Organizations application.
Specifying item details
After you add or import items, you can specify the following information:
- Units in which you issue and order items. Your administrator sets up conversion factors that convert order units to issue units.
- Status of the item. Items must be active before they can be moved to storerooms.
- Lot indicator. A lotted item has a shelf life and calculated expiration date.
- Bin identifier. The first bin that you specify becomes the default bin, but you can change it.
- Rotating item indicator. A rotating item represents a set of interchangeable assets that can be tracked as they change locations. These assets are repaired rather than replaced.
- Default vendor for restocking the item.
- Attachments, such as images, specifications, and safety data sheets.
- Commodity group and code. This information helps you to analyze product use and costs.
