Forecast edit rules

You can edit the forecast dates of a PM under certain circumstances. For example, you might need to change a forecast date to accommodate a vacation or a plant shut down.

You can edit a forecast date by entering a date in the New Date field. You can enter a New Date for one forecast instance at a time. The New Date, and accompanying comments, remain visible on the Forecast tab indefinitely. You can reforecast by using the prompt message at Save, selecting the Generate Forecast action, or by clicking the Process Pending Reforecast button.

Restrictions as to which dates in a forecast can be edited are as follows:
  • You can enter a New Date only for the first forecast date of a meter-based PM, not for subsequent dates. Since the first forecasted date is based on the Estimated Next Due Date, you can modify that date in the forecast. Subsequent forecast dates are determined by the Average Units per Day, so they are approximate.
  • You can enter a New Date only for the first forecast date of a PM that has its Use Last Work Order's Start Date to Calculate Next Due Date check box cleared. You cannot edit subsequent dates, as they are approximate.

Other restrictions for editing forecasts include:

  • If the Reforecast Subsequent Dates field is selected, subsequent forecast dates are recalculated when the you generate the forecast again, or when the PMForecast cron task runs. Forecast dates that are awaiting reforecast have the Reforecast Pending check box selected. Until the forecast is regenerated, no other changes to forecast dates can be made.
  • You cannot enter a New Date that is the same as, or earlier than, the previous forecast date.
  • If the Reforecast Subsequent Dates field is cleared, you cannot enter a New Date that is later than the next forecast date.

You can clear a pending forecast if you want to change a New Date that you entered before the forecast has been regenerated.

Forecast locks

You can lock or unlock a forecast based on your business needs. New dates cannot be entered in a locked forecast. The Lock Forecast Dates and Unlock Forecast Dates actions are available in the Preventive Maintenance application.
