Synonym domains

Synonym domains are special domains that are reserved by the system. Their internal values are used by the business logic of the product. You cannot add internal values to synonym domains, but you can add synonyms to an internal value and display the synonym to the user.

Synonym domains are common and are often found on status and type fields. An example of a synonym domain is work order status. The internal values of the domain include APPR (Approved), CAN (Canceled), CLOSE (Closed), COMP (Completed), WAPPR (Waiting on Approval), and others. You can add synonyms of the internal values that fit your business needs.

Example: Synonym values for WAPPR (Waiting on Approval)

Your company requires two people to approve a work order with costs over $300.00. You add synonym values for the internal WAPPR value to indicate the next role to approve the work, such as WAPPRMAN and WAPPRVP. The work manager puts the work order in WAPPRMAN status and the approving manager puts the work order in WAPPRVP status. The vice president has final approval and puts the work order into APPR status.
