Example: Linear Gap and Overlap report

You can run the Linear Gap and Overlap report to view the overlaps for features on a linear asset.

In a linear asset, a gap is the difference between attributes or values. An overlap is when continuous attributes or features contain overlapping values.

A highway is an example of a linear asset. If a highway has three lanes, 0 - 50 meters, 0 - 100 meters, and 50 - 100 meters and the lanes overlap for a certain distance, for example, at 0 - 100 meters, all the lanes overlap. The Linear Gap and Overlap report displays two tables. The first table displays the 0 - 50 meters and 0 - 100 meters lane. The second table displays only the 50 - 100 meter lane. The Linear Gap and Overlap report displays all the overlaps for the linear asset. Each linear feature on an asset is displayed only once in the report. Therefore, you must look at all the tables and extrapolate from the ranges present in the tables to understand which features overlap. Currently, the report displays only overlaps and not gaps.
