Adding asset types

In the Manage Assets Work Center, you can add asset types to organize your assets into meaningful categories for your business.

About this task

The asset type value that you add must be a unique identifier. An asset type that you add is a synonym of an internal value that is provided for asset types in the product's business logic.

You cannot add or remove internal values. However, you can create new asset type values that are based on an internal value. For example, PRODUCTION is an internal value for asset types. You can specify values, such as Turbines, HVAC, or Robotic, all of which use the internal value PRODUCTION. Your users can select the value that is the best match for their asset type.

You cannot delete an asset type if it is a default asset type. You cannot edit the asset type to remove its default status. Instead, you must designate a different type as the default asset type, which removes the original type as the default. After you save, you can delete the original asset type.

Procedure

  1. In the Manage Assets Work Center, select the Assets page and open an asset.
  2. Edit the Type tile.
  3. On the Asset Type panel, click Manage asset types.
  4. Click Add type.
