Classifying activity records

To simplify the process of finding and managing activity records, you can classify the records. Categorizing an activity involves classifying it and adding and modifying attributes to further group the classification.

About this task

For example, you might classify an activity as a notebook. The notebook classification might have the attributes of memory, speed, and disk space associated with it, which are copied to the record upon classification. As needed, you can add attributes such as operating system and power, change the attribute values, and remove attributes associated with the record.

Procedure

  1. In the Activities and Tasks application, display the activity record that you want to categorize.
  2. Select a classification for the activity in one of the following ways:
    Choice Description
Use the Classification field In the Classification field of the main application tab or on the Activities and Tasks tab, click Detail Menu and then select Classify to produce a classification hierarchy tree that you can drill down through and select a classification.
Use the Class Description field In the Class Description field of the main application tab or on the Activities and Tasks tab, you can hasten the classification search as follows:
    1. Click the Select Value icon next to the Class Description field and enter a keyword or a word string, such as Operating System into the Description field of the window. All classification values that contain the keyword or word string are retrieved.
    2. Click a value from the resulting list to select the classification.
  3. Optional: You can view the attributes that are associated with the selected classification in the Attributes table window. You can also add, delete, and change the values of the attributes in the row details.
  4. Save the activity.
The full classification path appears in the Classification field, where you can view all nodes of the classification.
