Managing precedence constraints in the Graphical Scheduling application

You can manage precedence constraints in the graphical view to ensure that tasks are completed in a designated order.

About this task

A precedence constraint is a relationship between two work records that indicates when one task begins or ends in relation to another. You can define precedence relationships between any tasks that are siblings under the same parent work record. Some precedence relationships are defined in the work management application where the work record originated. You can edit constraints or add new ones in the Gantt view. You cannot add constraints to preventive maintenance forecasts.

Procedure

  1. To insert a precedence constraint, press Ctrl-click on the work records that you want to link, then click Create constraints for selected work Insert Constraint icon. All of the selected work records are now linked by constraints. The constraints are start-to-finish, in order. If a constraint does not violate any finish-to-start work requirements, the line connecting the records is blue. If a constraint violates finish-to-start work requirements, the line connecting the records is red.
  2. To modify or delete the constraint, right-click on the line for the constraint that you inserted. Select Edit Constraint or Delete Constraint.
  3. Click Save ScheduleSave icon.
  4. To save your changes to the work records in the work management applications, click Commit ChangesCommit Changes icon from the Actions menu.
