Configuring security
The product provides components that are enabled for use after security authorization. Other components are visible only if you are working with a linear asset.
License-based component
The license-based component does not become available until you grant access to it in the Security Groups application. The Add/Modify Linear Referencing Methods action in the Select Action menu of the Assets application, is an example of this type of component. You must configure a linear referencing method before you can start creating linear assets. Therefore, configuring security access to this component is the first task that you must perform after installation.
Conditional components
After a user defines an asset as linear, conditional controls become visible. These components are visible only when the user is working with an asset that is defined as a linear asset. For example, when a user creates a work order on a linear asset, the following linear components are visible in the Work Order Tracking application:
- Feature field
- Feature Label field
- Linear Segment Details section
If the user creates a work order on an asset that is not linear, these components are not visible.
These conditional components are configured with signature option security. Each of these conditional components has a signature option that determines when to show or hide it, based on whether a linear asset is in use or not. The signature option is linked to a condition that looks for the linear indicator on the asset. If the indicator is set to TRUE, then the component is displayed. These signature options are linked to the MAXEVERYONE security group, or the group that is configured to act as the MAXEVERYONE group for your organization.
