Creating and processing pick lists

You can improve storeroom management efficiency by creating lists of reserved inventory to be picked and issued. You also can specify intermediate staging locations and then issue from those locations. You can work with reservation lines individually or by batch.

About this task

Pick lists are created from material reservations for items that originate from the same storeroom. You can sort and filter to select reservation criteria, such as required date, work order, bin, item, and quantity. Process the pick list lines individually or select several lines to process as a batch.

When using many list actions, you can select the Scan icon to scan bar codes and then scan by bin, lot, or rotating asset as applicable. For example, when you are picking items, you scan for the default bin. If there is no default bin, you are shown results either for the default lot or rotating asset. Quantities are automatically split to select bins or lots from the storeroom that fulfill the reservation requirement.

Pick lists have various states as inventory is moved through the picking and issuing process. Each state has a corresponding tab to show the inventory that is in that state. A single reservation can be split among more than one state.

Procedure

  1. On the Reservations page of the Manage Inventory Work Center, select one or more reservations for a storeroom and then select Create picks.
  2. Add a description, specify the date by which the items must be issued, and create the list.
The list is created and reservation lines are put into the Open state and are displayed on the Open tab. Reservations that are added to the pick list are removed from the Reservations list.
  3. Select one of the following choices, depending on whether you want to work with single lines or with batched lines:
    Option Description
    Single lines
    1. From the Actions menu at the end of a row, select whether to pick, stage, or issue the items.
    2. Specify the item quantity for the new item state and then select the action.

The required quantity is selected and automatically split between bins, lots, or rotating assets. Default entities are chosen first. You can modify quantities and select different values. You can refresh the original view by selecting Autosplit.

    Batched lines
    1. Select list lines to create a batch. From the actions bar, select whether to pick, stage, or issue the lines. Each line opens so that you can review and update quantities. You can act on the line or skip the line.

The required quantity is selected and automatically split between bins, lots, or rotating assets. Default entities are chosen first. You can modify quantities and select different values. You can refresh the original view by selecting Autosplit.

  4. Select the tab for the new inventory state and continue processing the inventory by line or by batch.
You can restock the inventory either from the Picked or Staged state. You can return the inventory from the Issued state. All transaction history is available on the Review tab.
