Using the icons in map views
The icons on a map enable you to view your location, route directions for traveling to the mapped records, display layers in the map, refresh the display, and show the map as a full-screen graphic.
About this task
The icons on the map are as follows:
- My Location
- Shows your location as a blue dot at your geographical position. By default, the Geolocation Service Provider is used by the browser with your consent to estimate your location using your wireless network location or IP address. If you want a different location, you can download the Mozilla Firefox geolocator add-on or another geolocation tool.
- Route Directions
- (Not provided in the single-record map) In the Map - Side by Side or Map - Below map views, displays a pop-up window that provides detailed directions for traveling from your location, the starting point, to each of the mapped records, in the order listed in the table. You can sort the table in a different sequence to change the route order. The routing feature is not available in the single-record map, nor in the related CIs map in the CI application.
- Layers
- Displays a pop-up window that enables you to show or not show the route between records in a
Map - Side by Side or Map - Below map view. You can
also view a legend that shows which symbols are displayed for various values of the record
attribute, or modify the attribute for the current browser session.
For example, use this procedure to view the legend or modify the attribute for mapped Change records; the same procedure works for the other records you can map in the various applications that provide mapping:
- Click the Legend icon, and click the twistie for Change in the Legend window.
- In the Changes Symbology window, click a different value if you want to change the attribute that is displayed for the mapped Change records. For example if you change the attribute from the initial default Priority to Status, the symbols shown on the map change accordingly.
- To view the symbols that are used to signify the attributes and values that are displayed for
the mapped records, expand the twistie for the attribute name in the Changes Symbology window. You
can click the twistie for a different attribute in the window to change the attribute that is shown.
For example, if you click the twistie for Status in the Changes Symbology
window to display the Change Status Legend, the symbols used to signify status values are
displayed.
When you change the attribute for a mapped record, the change is temporary. To permanently change the attribute used for a mapped record, you change the attribute in the Map Control of the presentation.xml file.
The Traffic option in the Layers window is not supported in this product release.
- Refresh
- Refreshes the map display. If additional records have been created since you accessed the map, these new records are added to the map.
- Full Screen
- Expands the map to fill the entire screen.
