Migration participants and roles
Planning and implementing the migration of configuration content involves several participants and roles.
Role | Tasks |
---|---|
Database administrator |
Database administrators monitor the integrity of the product databases, and back up and restore the databases. |
Product administrator |
The product administrators ensure that the product environment is available to the users. Product administrator might need to restart the application servers during the migration process. |
Deployment manager |
A deployment manager, also called a change manager, controls and coordinates the migration staff, ensures the timely execution of migration tasks, and resolves issues or conflicts. The deployment manager also ensures that all tasks are completed according to your change management plan. |
Deployment specialist |
Deployment specialists coordinate migration with the component developers and consultants. These specialists must identify and have access to both the development and test environments. They might also require access to production environments. They must be familiar with your IT policies so that they can manage the migration within your software maintenance periods. These specialists must be thoroughly familiar with the Migration Manager applications. |
Component developer or consultant |
Depending on the configuration changes in your organization, developers and consultants might be required to develop components such as workflows and escalations. Software developers might be required to write Java™ code. |
Ensure that deployment specialists and administrators have sufficient user rights to deploy packages. For example, to deploy packages that contain inactive sites, the user must have rights to access inactive sites.
