Frequently asked questions

This section covers answers to some Frequently asked questions about migrating from IBM Control Desk to Maximo IT.

Question: The volume of concurrency for application users is known. But I do not understand how that concurrency is considered and measured and how to calculate the App Points needed for integrated applications?
Answer: For read-only integrated applications, no apppoints are required. For any process/integration that creates and updates records, the end users will need to be accounted for. For more details regarding Maximo IT License and AppPoints, see Administering Maximo IT License and AppPoints.
Question: How should I measure the concurrency of these integrations to calculate the necessary AppPoints? How will IBM measure that concurrency? How is this measured in the case of integrations that do not create a record in the LOGINTRACKING table?
Answer: It depends on the types of integrations that follow this model and on the type of records being created/updated. If you are creating Service Requests, this is considered self-service and is free. Other record types will require sufficient AppPoints to cover peak concurrent users making updates via the API integration. This will need to be estimated.
Question: In the case of applications that are only reading data, do they need AppPoints if using apikey or SOAP web services?
Answer: For read-only integrated applications, no AppPoints are required.
Question: In the case of approvals via e-mail, we have been told that licensing is also necessary. How is this License concurrency measured? In case of mobile applications usage, how is this concurrency considered?
Answer: For email approvals. there would be a high ratio of users per concurrent user type in Maximo Application Suite. The estimation of number of AppPoints can be done depending on how many email approvers there are.
Question: Does MIF require a specific license? Since SOAP web services or Rest APIs are part of MIF.
Answer: MIF licensing depends on the type of integrations chosen for the product.
Question: Is support for ISTIO and Vault offered for Maximo IT?
Answer: Vault is not supported at the moment as there are known incompatibilities with MAS and ISTIO.
Question: Are there a plans to support access to mailboxes (API Graph for O365) in Maximo Application Suite?
Answer: No current plans for mailbox access as of now.
Question: How to calculate the total infrastructure required for moving to Maximo IT?
Answer: The MAS Infrastructure calculator provides a sizing estimation according to certain inputs. For Manage, we can use total concurrent users or the number of existing UI JVM. The calculator will give you the total required infrastructure (CPU + Memory + Storage) and it allows you to break it down into OCP Worker Nodes. So, the final result is the number of required Worker Nodes of a given size. For example, 4 Worker Nodes with 16 VCP and 128 GB of memory, plus 3.5 TB of storage. It also gives you the number of Master Nodes (Control Plane) and their size.
