Configure IBM® Maximo® Application Suite language support
The IBM® Maximo® Application Suite user interface is available in a number of languages that are generally available to all applications. Some applications individually support additional languages.
Note: The following information pertains to locale management for customer-managed Maximo Application Suite. For IBM managed Maximo Application Suite, some aspects of locale management are handled by your Maximo Application Suite representative. For more information, see your Welcome letter.
The user interface language
The languages that are displayed in the user interface are controlled by your browser settings, your preferred language setting, and the application base language.
Browser language setting
When users access the Maximo Application Suite user interface, the displayed language is set by their browser language settings, if the language is available. If the language that is selected in the browser is not available, the application base language is displayed.
Preferred language setting
Users can overrule the browser setting by selecting a preferred language, which is then displayed in supported applications no matter what the current browser language setting is. If the application does not support the preferred language setting, then the displayed language is controlled by the browser language setting.

Configure languages for Maximo® Health and Maximo® Predict
The Maximo® Health base language and additional supported languages are selected when you deploy the Maximo® Health application. You can select more additional languages after the deployment is compelete, and you can set additional languages as the default language for the application for individual users. If you are deploying Maximo® Predict, the language settings for Maximo® Health also apply to Maximo® Predict.
Important: The base language applies only to the Maximo® Health and Maximo® Predict applications and cannot be changed after the deployment is started.
For languages that are supported by Maximo Application Suite, if the language is installed as an additional language, the same rules for other applications apply to Maximo® Health and Maximo® Predict.
For additional languages that are not supported by Maximo Application Suite, the preferred language setting for Maximo® Health or Maximo® Predict is determined in the Maximo® Health Start Center, in the Users application. For more information, see Assigning languages to users. If the language setting in the Users application is not available, the preferred language setting in the Maximo Application Suite user profile is used.
Installing additional languages
After Maximo® Health or Maximo® Predict is deployed, you can install additional languages for the application. You cannot uninstall a language.
To install the languages, the application must be redeployed. During redeployment, the application is inaccessible.
- Log in to Maximo Application Suite as an application administrator.
- From the Suite administration Applications pane, select the application.
- In the three-dot menu, select View configuration.
- Select Deployment options.
- Select the checkboxes for the languages that you want to install.
- Click Save and redeploy.
Assigning additional languages to users
As an application administrator for Maximo® Health or Maximo® Predict, you can assign an additional language to individual users.
Before you assign a language, ensure that the language is installed for the application.
- In Maximo® Health or Maximo® Predict, click Application administration and from the Start Center, open the Users application.
- Open the record for the user.
- In the Language field, select the language.
- Optional: In the Locale field, select the locale. This value does not affect the locale in the Maximo Application Suite user profile.
- Optional: In the Time Zone field, select at time zone. This value does not affect the time zone in the Maximo Application Suite user profile.
- Save the record.
Enabling base languages
If the base language for the application is not English, you must run the following database command to enable that language. Replace the schema_name variables with the schema name for your database.
If this step is not completed, the BMXAA4024E error occurs when users log in.
Optionally set user preferred Maximo Application Suite language and region
Users can set their preferred locale and time zone for the Maximo Application Suite user interfaces. The preferences that are set here override the language settings for the browser that is used to access the suite.
For example, if the user's preferred language is set to German and Maximo Application Suite is accessed from a browser set to English, the user interface is displayed in German.
Similarly, if the user selects CET for time zone, the user interface date and time is based on CET regardless of the time zone that is set for the user's system or browser.
Important: Not all applications support these preferences and instead use application-specific settings. For more information, see the Maximo Application Suite language support table.
To set you preferred language and region:
- Click Profile
- Click Manage profile
- Select Language and region
- Select your preferred locale and time zone.
- The locale preference specifies the language and date and time representation.
- The time zone preference sets your approximate geographical location. Date and time information is displayed by using this setting.
Tip: You can update the language and region settings at any time.
