Working with service items
You can create service items, associate general ledger
accounts with service items, change the status of a service item,
view a service item on a work order, and create units of measurement.
Creating service items
You use the Service Items application to create a service item record. A service item record identifies the item, lets you associate information with an item, and view or manage a list of vendor companies that supply service items.
Specifying organization details for service items
You can specify organization details for service items. Typically, general ledger accounts and tax codes are specific to a single organization. In the Service Items application, you can identify the default general ledger account used in the purchasing process for this service, if no other charging entity is specified (such as a work order, a location, and so on).
Changing the status of service items
The status of a service item can help you implement and enforce policies related to record creation and modification. You can change the status of a service item and apply that change to its dependent records.
Reordering direct issue items and services
You can reorder direct issue items and services that are listed on approved work orders and are issued without being received into inventory.
Creating units of measure
You can create a unit of measure to describe the quantity used to measure an item, tool, or a service. You use a unit of measure to measure the items and services that you order, issue, and transfer in the asset management system. Examples of units of measure include EACH, CASE, IN (inches), and ROLL.
Creating conversion factors
You can create a conversion factor to define the numeric value or ratio that the asset management system uses to relate one unit of measure to another. The conversion factor is an alternate value that is used to represent a unit of measure. You can use this alternate value to define an item order or transfer quantity and storeroom balance.
Creating commodity groups
You can create a commodity group to identify a grouping of items, tools, or services. A commodity group contains a grouping of individual commodity codes. Classifying items, tools, services with commodity groups and commodity codes provides a way for you to analyze spending by product type. You first define a commodity group and then add and associate individual commodity codes to the group.
Copying service items
You can use the Duplicate Service Item action to create a copy of an existing service item. Once you copy a service item, you can then change it as needed.
