Creating item assembly structures

You can create item assembly structures that are lists of parts and subassemblies. A structure is needed to build an item or to define the requirements for a location. Use item assembly structures on rotating items and on items in a kit. You can apply item assembly structures as a template when creating rotating asset records and location records.

About this task

When you create an item assembly structure for an item, the following rules apply:
  • If the parent item is a rotating item, add either rotating or non-rotating items to the item assembly structure.
  • If the parent item is a non-rotating item, add other non-rotating items only to the item assembly structure. Rotating items cannot be added to the item assembly structure if the parent item is not a rotating item.
  • If a rotating item is applied to an item assembly structure, any child rotating items become part of the parent rotating item and do not have their own inventory balance.
  • If the item assembly structure is for an item kit, do not include rotating items or condition-enabled items.

Procedure

  1. From the List tab of the Item Master application, display the item record for which you want to create an item assembly structure.
  2. From the Item Assembly Structure tab, click New Row to open the Children window.
  3. In the Item field, specify a value.
  4. Optional: Change the number in the Quantity field.
  5. Optional: Type remarks for this item in the Remarks field.
  6. Optional: Click New Row to add another item.
  7. Click Save Item to associate the item assembly structure with the item record.

What to do next

By using the Move To action to change the Current Level item, you can also traverse up and down the hierarchy, viewing item assembly structures that are nested within other item assembly structures. The Children window shows the item assembly structure of the item listed as the current item. The Move To action does not work unless an item has an item assembly structure associated with it.
