Creating configuration items
You create configuration items to establish relationships and groupings of infrastructure components in information technology for configuration management and change control.
Procedure
- In the Configuration Items application, click New CI.
- Provide a name for the configuration item.
- Optional: Provide a description for the configuration item.
- Optional: Specify these values for the configuration
item:
Option Description Classification - Associate the configuration item with a classification.
Actual CI - Base the configuration item on an actual configuration item.
- If the Classification field is blank when you specify the value for the actual configuration item, the classification and attributes from the actual configuration item are used.
- Asset
- Location
- Item
- Service
- Service Group
- Associate the configuration item with an asset, location, item, service, or service group.
- Some associations preclude making other associations. For example, if you associate the configuration item with an asset, the Location field, Item field, and Service field become read-only.
- CI Location
- Site
- Organization
- Item Set
- Calendar
- Shift
- Specify values for the location of the configuration items, the site, the organization, the item set, the calendar, and the shift.
- Some values preclude specifying other values.
CI Owner - Specify an owner for the configuration item.
- To add attributes, click New Row.
To add attributes, you must associate the configuration item with a classification.
- In the Attribute field, specify a value.
- Optional: Provide information for the remaining fields.
- Save your changes.
