Defining flow actions

A flow action is used in a work process flow to define certain actions that should occur while work is being done. Actions or action groups can be applied to any work order, task, or job plan task.

About this task

You can determine whether the action takes place automatically, or if the action only takes place when it is initiated manually. When automatic, the action takes place as soon as the work order or task status is changed to an in progress (INPRG) status value by work process flow. When manual, you must initiate the flow action by running the automation or processing scripts or placing an action button on the target application. Actions and action groups are defined in the Actions application.

Procedure

  1. In an application that supports flow action, display the record for which you want to define a flow action.
  2. Perform one of the following actions:
    • For a work order, change, release, or job plan record, enter a value in the Flow Action field on the application tab.
    • For a work order or job plan task, enter a value in the Flow Action field in the Task table window. The Tasks table window is found on the main tab of the Job Plans application, or the Plans tab of the Work Order Tracking, Changes, and Releases applications.
The defined action runs when the work order or task status value is changed to INPRG.
  3. Specify whether you want the flow action to be automatically run:
    Option Flow Action Assist
Automatically run the flow action Cleared
Manually run the flow action Selected
  4. Click Save record.
