Linear components

Linear asset components include components that are enabled for use after security authorization. Other components are visible only if you are working with a linear asset.

Linear referencing
Linear referencing enables you to locate points and spans along linear assets. There can be many linear referencing methods, such as absolute, relative, percent, addressing, time, and stationing.
Features application
A feature is a physical object, such as a guard rail or a mile marker, that you associate with one or more linear assets. Features are not tracked with unique identifiers. You apply costs associated with a feature to the linear asset that has a unique identifier.
Relationships and linear assets
The product supports two types of relationships: hierarchical relationships and user-defined relationships. A user-defined relationship uses basic terms, such as intersects, or contains to describe the dependency or connectivity between assets.
Linear asset classifications
When you classify a nonlinear asset, the attribute applies to the entire asset. When you classify a linear asset, you can enter different values for the same attribute and identify the start and end measures where the values for that attribute change.
Linear segment details
You use the Linear Segment Details section to locate a linear segment or point on a linear asset. The Linear Segment Details section, which displays on tabs in several applications, appears only if you are working with a linear asset.
