General ledger account codes

Each general ledger account code consists of several components (segments). In the Database Configuration application, you define the default, system-level format of the account code. In the Chart of Accounts application, you specify the valid components to be used, as well as the organization-specific format of the account code.

For easy identification, use delimiters to separate components when they display. For example, use hyphens to separate components: 6100-400®-SAF. Delimiters are written to the database.

For any account code, you can:

  • Define 20 or fewer components.
  • Restrict the number of characters in a component field.
  • Include a total of 254 or fewer characters/digits.

You can use any tab of the Database Configuration application to specify the general ledger account code format.
