AppPoints for customer-managed Maximo Application Suite
IBM® Maximo Application Suite application usage, runtime, and user access are managed by using Application Points (AppPoints).
From a user perspective, AppPoint usage is not visible. A user logs in, selects an application to work with, and then works within that application without having to know anything about AppPoints.
The number of AppPoints allocated to customer-managed Maximo Application Suite workspaces is set by the license. AppPoints are deducted when you deploy some capabilities, such as, Maximo Connector for Oracle Applications or Maximo Spatial. AppPoints are also used as users log in and use the product. You can configure your environment to enforce the AppPoint entitlement, and block users from logging in if your AppPoint entitlement is exceeded. If compliance is not enforced, users are able to log in, but you might be charged for the overage.
For more information about entitled AppPoint balance, and usage monitoring, see the Manage licenses and AppPoint usage documentation.
User AppPoint allocation
AppPoints are distributed to users based on their entitlement, access type, and their application access. Users can be granted administrative entitlement, application entitlement and access, with either authorized or concurrent access type. These entitlements and access types are specified when users are created and can be updated later.
- Administration entitlement
-
Administrator access to Maximo Application Suite and its applications is granted by using administration entitlement with reserved AppPoints.
Reserved AppPoints is specific for administrator entitlement and when the user's access type is set to Authorized. With reserved AppPoints, AppPoints are permanently deducted for the user and ensure that the user is always able to log in and use Maximo Application Suite.
For the Base administrator user entitlement, 10 AppPoints are reserved. For the Premium administrator user entitlement, 15 AppPoints are reserved.
For more information, see Administration entitlement and access
- Application entitlement
-
Users are given application entitlements to access the applications in Maximo Application Suite.
For users with the Concurrent access type, AppPoints are deducted when a user logs in to Maximo Application Suite and are returned when the user logs out. If users close their session without first logging out, the AppPoints can take up to 30 minutes to be returned.
Users with authorized access have AppPoints that are permanently reserved and are always able to log in to Maximo Application Suite and use the applications.
The following list provides an overview of the AppPoint allocation for application user entitlements:- None
- For the None application user entitlement, system management is used for concurrent access. 0 AppPoints are required for authorized access.
- Self service
- For the Self service application user entitlement, 0 AppPoints are required for concurrent access and for authorized access.
- Limited
- For the Limited application user entitlement, 5 AppPoints are required for concurrent access, and 2 AppPoints are required for authorized access.
- Base
- For the Base application user entitlement, 10 AppPoints are required for concurrent access, and 3 AppPoints are required for authorized access.
- Premium
- For the Premium application user entitlement, 15 AppPoints are required for concurrent access, and 5 AppPoints are required for authorized access.

Application AppPoint allocation
Certain applications, tools, and add-ons require an up-front AppPoint reservation at installation time for production mode. The AppPoint cost might vary depending on deployment configuration, and is shown before deployment in the AppPoint reservation summary in the Maximo Application Suite catalog.
If the amount of available AppPoints is less than the amount that is required to deploy the application, the deployment process pauses. The deployment resumes when enough AppPoints are available.
