How to Manually Extract the Catalog Manager Export in OBIEE
The Catalog Manager export is one of two files that need to be manually extracted so that analyses and the repository are analyzed correctly. This file is needed to correctly connect analyses with subject areas. These steps will help you correctly perform the extraction.
-
Run Catalog Manager by executing
runcat.cmd(which is usually inOracle_Home\bi\bitools\bin). -
Open your catalog under File → Open Catalog.
-
Choose the type Online.
-
Input a URL—
http://hostname:port_number/analytics-ws/saw.dll. (See Enabling the Online Catalog Manager to Connect.) -
Input your User and Password.
-
-
(Optional) In the left pane Tree, choose the folder that you want to export. Skip this step if you want to export the whole catalog.
-
Click on Tools → Create Report, which should open the Create Catalog Report window.
-
Under Available Columns, click on Folder, and then click on the upper >. Do the same for Name, Subject Area, Table, Column, Formula, RPD Variables, Session Variables, and SAW Variables. The window should now look like this.
-
Click on OK, which should open the Report Preview window.
- This step can take a while, depending on the number of exported analyses.
-
Click on Browse and select the folder specified by the
obiee.manualInput.dirproperty of your OBIEE connection in IBM Automatic Data Lineage. (See OBIEE Resource Configuration.)-
By default, this folder points to
<MANTA_FOLDER>\cli\input\obiee\<CONNECTION_NAME>. -
<MANTA_FOLDER>is the folder where you installed Automatic Data Lineage. -
<CONNECTION_NAME>is the name of the OBIEE connection that you use in Manta Admin GUI. -
Under FileName, enter the name
export.txt.
-
-
After clicking on OK, a report will be saved and used for the specified OBIEE connection.
-
Don’t forget to update this export in the future whenever you make changes in your OBIEE repository and you want these changes visualized. Remember that analyses are extracted automatically, therefore, not updating the Catalog Manager export could result in lineage inconsistencies.
