MicroStrategy Scanner Guide

IBM Automatic Data Lineage currently supports only on-premises MicroStrategy servers.

The MicroStrategy reporting tool is a versatile and powerful solution that helps businesses gather, analyze, and visualize data effectively. It offers a user-friendly interface, supports multiple data sources, provides advanced analytics and predictive modeling, and enables the creation of interactive reports and dashboards. Automatic Data Lineage is a powerful data lineage platform that simplifies data management and visualizes dataflow. The Automatic Data Lineage MicroStrategy scanner provides fully-automated metadata extraction over a single connection, where a single Automatic Data Lineage connection represents one MicroStrategy server.

Follow these steps to configure a Automatic Data Lineage connection to your MicroStrategy server.

Step 1: Create an Extraction User

In your MicroStrategy instance, create a user (or use an existing one) with admin privileges for the extraction. The username and password of this user will be required in step 2.

Step 2: Configure the Connection

Create a new connection in AdminUI (http(s)://”hostname”:”port”/manta-admin-gui/app/index.html?#/platform/connections/) to enable the extraction and analysis by Automatic Data Lineage. You will need one connection for each MicroStrategy server that you want to connect to. The full connection requirements are described in MicroStrategy Integration Requirements.

Mandatory Properties

Connection name — User-defined field to identify the connection
MicroStrategy instance name — User-defined field to identify the MicroStrategy instance. The name will be used in the viewer and might impact the paths of extracted and input files for this connection. Do not use URLs or dots, as they are not allowed in this name.

Mandatory Properties for Extraction

MicroStrategy Library URL address — URL of the MicroStrategy library instance. This is the URL used for authentication and extraction. Example: http://microstrategy.my-company.com:8080/MicroStrategyLibrary
Username — Username for the connection to the MicroStrategy server
Password — Password for the connection to the MicroStrategy server
