A work order specifies a particular task and the labor,
materials, services, and tools required to complete the task.
Work order management plans
After you create a work order, you can use the Plans tab
to specify estimates for labor, craft, materials, services, and tools.
You also can add child work orders and create tasks for the work order.
Work orders
A work order specifies the asset, location, and the work
required. You can apply service level agreements and assign ownership.
The status of the work order changes as it moves through processing
cycle. Duplicating a work order can save time when you need to create
a work order with similar information.
Work packages
When you create a work package, you group existing
work orders under a new parent work order. A work package can be useful,
for example, when you have a work order with 100 separate tasks and
90 of the tasks have been completed. You can group the remaining 10
tasks into a work package with a new parent work order. The 10 tasks
become tasks under the new work order, and any work orders that are
not tasks become children of the new work order.
Actuals on work orders
As work progresses on the work order, you can report the
actual labor hours, materials, services, and tools used.
Record relationships and work orders
Relationships between records, such as work orders and
tickets, help to simplify record management. You can create record
relationships manually or relationships can be created automatically
when you take certain actions.
Failure analysis
Failure data enables you to record and view asset and location
problems, causes, and remedies associated with work orders. This data
enables you to identify trends and isolate probable causes of breakdowns.
Measurement points for work assets on work orders
Work
assets on a work order can have measurement points, which allow you
to track the usage and condition of your assets. You can add measurement
points to a work order until the work order is closed.
Preventive maintenance alerts
Preventive maintenance alerts notify you of preventive
maintenance work that is due for an asset. You can also be alerted
about preventive maintenance that is due for a location. You can use
preventive maintenance alerts to help reduce asset downtime and perform
maintenance more regularly and efficiently.
Work record approval
When work records, such as work orders, changes, and releases,
have a status of Waiting on Approval, you can change the status to
Approved.
Rules for changes to archived work orders
Closed and canceled work orders are archived and become
historical records. You can add information to a closed record by
using the Edit History Work Order action.
Deletion rules for work orders
For auditing purposes, you cannot always delete work orders.
If you cannot delete a specific work order, you can stop all action
on a work order by changing the status to canceled.
