Use the Email settings to create email accounts on macOS devices.
The following table describes the email settings:
Policy setting | Description |
---|---|
Configure for Type | The protocol used for the email account. This setting supports the following types: IMAP or POP. |
Account Description | A description of the email account. |
Path Prefix for IMAP Protocol | The path prefix of the email account. |
User Display Name | The name of the end user. |
Email Address | The email address of the account. If the email address is not provided, the device prompts the user to provide an email address during the profile installation. |
Mail Server Host Name (for Incoming Mail) | The incoming mail server host name (or IP address). |
Mail server Port number (for Incoming Mail) | The incoming mail server port number. If no port number is specified, the default port for a given protocol is used. |
Username (for Incoming Mail) | The user name of the email account. |
Authentication Type (for Incoming Mail) | The authentication scheme for the incoming mail. The allowed values are: None, Password, MD5 Challenge, NTLM, or MD5 Digest. |
Use SSL (for Incoming Mail) | The incoming mail server uses SSL for authentication. |
Mail Server Hostname (for Outgoing Mail) | The outgoing mail server host name (or IP address). |
Mail Server Port Number (for Outgoing mail) | The outgoing mail server port number. If no port number is specified, ports 25, 587, and 465 are used, in this order. |
Username (for Outgoing Mail) | The user name of the email account. If a user name is not provided, and the account is set up to require authentication for outgoing email, the device prompts for the user name during profile installation. |
Authentication Type (for Outgoing Mail) | The authentication scheme for outgoing email. The allowed values are: None, Password, MD5 Challenge, NTLM, or MD5 Digest. |
Same Password for Outgoing and Incoming Mail | The user is prompted for the password only once. This password is used for both outgoing and incoming email. |
Use SSL (for Outgoing Mail) | The outgoing mail server uses SSL for authentication. |
Prevent Moving Mail to other Accounts | Messages cannot be moved out of this email account into another account. This setting also prevents a message from being forwarded or replied to from a different account than where the message originated. |
Prevent Third Party Apps from Sending Mail | Third-party apps are prevented from sending mails from this account. |
Disable synchronization of Recent Addresses List | Recent addresses are not synchronized on the device. |
