Android 8.71/8.70 Release Notes

The Android app version 8.71/8.70 for IBM® MaaS360® is available on the Play Store on 7 October 2024.

Support for FCM in Direct Boot Mode

IBM MaaS360 is enhanced to support Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) in the Direct Boot Mode. The devices that are enabled with Google services in this mode can receive actions such as device wipe or reset passcode immediately. For more information, see Improved action execution times in Direct Boot Mode for Android devices managed by IBM MaaS360.

Remove apps on shared devices when users sign out and retain APK

IBM MaaS360 enhances the device to be completely secure when a shared user signs out. When the shared user signs out, all the apps that are distributed by the admin are uninstalled, and all the added accounts are removed. When a new user or the same user signs in again, the previously uninstalled apps applicable to the newly signed-in user are installed without using data. However, the additional apps are downloaded by using data. For more information, see Optimized removal of all apps and accounts on sign-out from shared devices.

Supporting MAC randomization feature for the wifi network

IBM MaaS360 enhances user privacy by using a randomized MAC address to connect to a wifi network. MAC addresses are used by devices to connect to a wifi network or an access point. Because these MAC addresses are transmitted without encryption, they can be captured and used to track the location of the user. Historically, devices use the factory MAC address to associate with a wifi network. The factory MAC address is globally unique and static, helping the device to be tracked and individually identified. For more information, see Wifi settings and Supporting MAC randomization feature on the Android devices.

Supporting Identity certificates signed with intermediate certificates

IBM MaaS360 Android Agent now supports the identity certificates that are signed with the intermediate and the root CA certificates. This feature applies to the certificates that are distributed through Identity Certificates Policy, ActiveSync Policy, and VPN Policy. The admin can associate the intermediate certificate to an ID Certificate and add to the Configure CA certificate section. For more information, see Certificates.

Modernized icons for IBM MaaS360

IBM MaaS360 updated all the platform and container app icons and the background screens to comply with the IBM Design standards to enhance the user experience. For more information, see Modernized icons for IBM MaaS360.

OEMConfig feedback channel tracking dashboard

IBM MaaS360 is enhanced with an app feedback channel to monitor the status of app configuration. The administrator can view all the OEM configurations of the device along with filtering and sorting capabilities. They can also view the status of the OEMConfig profile that is applied to the device. For more information, see Corporate-owned devices without Google Mobile Services, Tracking the status of the Android OEMConfig profile, and Using OEMConfig apps to apply advanced device configuration policies in MaaS360.

Support for managed App Configuration Feedback for OEM Apps

IBM MaaS360 Portal is enhanced to support the App Configuration Feedback for OEM Apps on non-GMS devices. For more information, see Using OEMConfig apps to apply advanced device configuration policies in MaaS360.
