Usage Trends report

The Usage Trends report displays details about an app based on the usage trends of the app.

The following Advanced Apps Inventory reports are provided for the Usage Trends report:

  • App Installs Trend
  • App Usage By Session Length Trend
  • App Usage By Active Users Trend
  • App Usage By Sessions Trend

The Usage Trends report is available for both managed and unmanaged apps. However, the table data report is displayed for managed apps only except for the App Installs Trend report that displays table data for both managed and unmanaged apps. MaaS360® apps such as Secure Browser that are also called first party apps, and apps that are pushed to the device from the App Catalog are called Managed apps. Apps that are pushed to the device apart from the App Catalog are called Unmanaged apps.

Apps Installs Trend report

The Apps Installs Trend report displays the trend for app installs per month. The report also displays the month that app installs are the highest along with the number of app installs for that month. The number of unique apps that are installed and the device platform that the apps are installed on is also displayed in the data.

Depending on the type of chart data that you want to view, choose either the Bar, Line, or Area chart. Click the Table icon (Reports table icon) to view chart and table data for the report. The table data displays the app name, the app ID, the number of app installs, app type, and platform columns. Table data is displayed for managed apps only. Select a column name to apply filters. With filters, you can sort a report based on ascending or descending order, device platform, or app type. Click Reset Filters to reset applied filters back to the default filter.

You can also export individual chart and table data. Click Export in the chart data to export the graph report as a .png file. Click Export in the table data to export app details as a .csv file.

App installs trend

The following data is displayed in the App Installs Trend report:

  • The graph displays an Area chart type.
  • Thirteen apps are installed based on devices by platform. In this instance, the device platform is Android.
  • Scrolling on the Area chart displays the total number of app installs and the month that app installation was the highest. The data also shows the device platform that apps are installed on.
  • The app installation trend is the highest in the month of March with a total of 66 app installs on the Android device platform.
  • The table data displays data for all thirteen apps regardless of whether the apps are managed or unmanaged. The corresponding app ID for apps, the number of app installs, the app type, and the device platform that the app is installed on is displayed.
  • Adobe Reader is one of the thirteen trending apps based on app installs. The app ID is com.adobe.reader. The app is an unmanaged app and is installed five times on the Android device platform.

App Usage By Session Length Trend report

The App Usage By Session Length Trend report displays the trend of app usage based on the length of an app session per month. The report also displays the month that the trend of app usage is the highest based on the average length of a session (in seconds) for the apps. The number of unique apps that are installed and the device platform that the apps are installed on is also displayed in the data.

Depending on the type of chart data that you want to view, choose either the Bar, Line, or Area chart. Click the Table icon (Reports table icon) to view chart and table data for the report. The table data displays the app name, the app ID, the number of app installs, app type, and platform columns. Table data is displayed for managed apps only. Select a column name to apply filters. With filters, you can sort a report based on ascending or descending order, device platform, or app type. Click Reset Filters to reset applied filters back to the default filter.

The following data is displayed in the App Usage By Session Length Trend report:

  • The graph displays an Area chart type.
  • Two apps are installed based on devices by platform. In this instance, the device platforms are Android and iOS.
  • Scrolling on the Area chart displays the average length of an app session based on device platform per month.
  • The app usage by session length trend is highest in the month of March for iOS devices. The app usage by session length trend is constantly one for Android devices except in the months of December and May.
  • The highest average session length is 10.1 seconds for iOS and one second for the Android device platform.
  • No apps are installed on the Windows device platform.
  • The table data displays data for the total apps data. In this case, there are two apps that are installed and both are managed apps. The table data displays data for managed apps only.
  • The corresponding app ID for apps, the number of app installs, the app type, and the device platform that the app is installed on is displayed.
  • The Hello Version app is one of the two trending apps based on app usage by average session length. The app is a managed app and is installed five times on the Android device platform.

App Usage By Active Users Trend report

The App Usage By Active Users Trend report displays the trend of app usage by active users per month. The report also displays the month that the trend of app usage by active users is the highest. The data displays the number of active users that use the app per month based on device platform.

An active user is any user from the MaaS360 customer account who, in the past thirty days, launched a managed or unmanaged app on a device that is managed by MaaS360.

Depending on the type of chart data that you want to view, choose either the Bar, Line, or Area chart. Click the Table icon (Reports table icon) to view chart and table data for the report. The table data displays the app name, the app ID, the number of app installs, app type, and platform columns. Table data is displayed for managed apps only. Select a column name to apply filters. With filters, you can sort a report based on ascending or descending order, device platform, or app type. Click Reset Filters to reset applied filters back to the default filter.

The following data is displayed in the App Usage By Active Users Trend report:

  • The graph displays a Bar chart type.
  • Two apps are installed based on devices by platform. In this instance, the platforms are Android and iOS.
  • Scrolling on the Bar chart displays the number of active users that use the app based on device platform per month.
  • The app usage by active users trend is the highest in the month of January for Android devices with one active user for the app usage.
  • The app usage by active users trend is the highest in the month of March for iOS devices with one active user for the app usage.
  • The table data displays data for the total apps data. In this case, there are two apps that are installed and both are managed apps. The table data displays data for managed apps only. The corresponding app ID for apps, the number of app installs, the app type, and the device platform that the app is installed on is displayed.
  • The Hello Version app is one of two trending apps based on the app usage by active users trend. The app is a managed app that is installed five times on the Android device platform.

App Usage By Sessions Trend report

The App Usage By Sessions Trend report displays the trend of app usage by sessions based on device platform. The data displays the number of app sessions per month based on device platform.

The length of the session is the time (in seconds) from when an app is launched to the time until the app usage goes into background mode on the device. The total amount of session lengths for apps on a device platform represents the session time by device platform.

Depending on the type of chart data that you want to view, choose either the Bar, Line, or Area chart. Click the Table icon (Reports table icon) to view chart and table data for the report. The table data displays the app name, the app ID, the number of app installs, app type, and platform columns. Table data is displayed for managed apps only. Select a column name to apply filters. With filters, you can sort a report based on ascending or descending order, device platform, or app type. Click Reset Filters to reset applied filters back to the default filter.

The following data is displayed in the App Usage By Sessions Trend report:

  • The graph displays a Line chart type.
  • Two apps are installed based on devices by platform. In this instance, the platforms are Android and iOS.
  • Scrolling on the Line chart displays the total length of time for the app sessions (in seconds) based on device platform per month.
  • The app usage by sessions trend is the highest in the month of April for Android devices with a total session length of 17,600 seconds.
  • The app usage by active users trend is the highest in the month of March for iOS devices with total session length of 10 seconds.
  • The table data displays data for the total apps data. In this case, there are two apps that are installed and both are managed apps. The table data displays only the managed apps data. The corresponding app ID for apps, number of app installs, the app type, and the device platform that the app is installed on is displayed.
  • The Hello Version app is one of two trending apps based on the app usage by sessions trend. The app is a managed app that is installed five times on the Android device platform.
