Deploying macOS updates to multiple devices

You can push macOS updates to multiple devices through device groups and user groups.

Follow these steps to deploy macOS updates to a group.

Procedure

  1. Select one of the following deployment options to deploy or enforce a software update to a device group.
    • Go to Users > Groups.
    • Go to Devices > Groups.
  2. Click More option next to group name and then select Update OS-macOS.
    If the update is unavailable, a device updates are available message is displayed.
  3. In the Update OS - macOS window, select one of the following update methods.
    • Enforce OS version: Enforces a software update on devices in a group within a specified time frame.
    • Push iOS update: Deploys a software update to an iOS device or devices in a group.

  4. To configure the Enforce OS version option, complete the following steps.
    1. In the Select OS version drop-down field, select the relevant macOS version to enforce the software update to a device or devices in a group.
    2. In the Enforcement date and time field, select the date and time to enforce the OS update on a device or devices in a group. The OS update occurs when all the criteria for update are met, such as the device is in an unlocked state or the device receives network connectivity.
    3. In the Organizational help URL field, enter the support documentation URL for the users.
  5. To configure the Push macOS update option, complete the following steps.
    1. In the Select OS version drop-down field, select the relevant iOS version to deploy the software update to a device or devices in a group.
    2. In the Maximum deferral duration, enter the time that users can delay the installation after the OS update command is issued to the device. After this period, the update is forcefully installed on the devices.
  6. Click Continue.
    The action request is submitted. The device might require up to four or five hours to download and install the software update.
