Integrating with a Managed Google Play account

Administrators can set up Android Enterprise integration with MaaS360® by using a Managed Google Play account.

About this task

You can sign up by using your work email, an unmanaged Google account, or a Gmail account to create an Enterprise Google account to link your MaaS360 account with Android Enterprise.

Using this workflow, you can bind multiple Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) instances to a single Enterprise Google account. You can deploy additional Google products alongside Android Enterprise without the need for separate registration with Google.

Note: To integrate with Android Enterprise, you need MaaS360 for Android app version 5.65 or later. The older versions of the MaaS360 app cannot create Android Enterprise user accounts and might result in enrollment failures.

Procedure

  1. From the IBM® MaaS360 Portal home page, go to Setup > Services.
  2. On the Services page, expand the Mobile Device Management section and then select Enable Android Enterprise.
  3. Select a Managed Google Play account and click Connect.
Important: On clicking Connect, you will be directed to a sign-up page hosted by Google. It is recommended to use an email address associated with your organization for onboarding. This ensures smooth and secure operations and enhance your integration with Google services.
  4. On the Google sign-in page, enter an email address in the Create Admin Account field. Click Next.

You can sign up using the following accounts:

Important: The sign-up process differs for each account based on the email address you enter in the Create Admin Account field. To complete the registration for each type of account, follow the on-screen instructions.
Using a new work email address
You can use a new work email address that is not part of the Google Workspace account.

After verification of the email, you can create a new Enterprise Google account and add the required Google products like Chrome Enterprise Upgrade for Chromebooks, Chrome Browser Cloud Management, Google Workspace to the Enterprise Google account. By default, Android Enterprise is included in your account.

After completion of the sign-up process, you are redirected to the MaaS360 Portal.

Using an existing Google Workspace account
You can sign up using an existing Google Workspace account. If you are an enterprise administrator, you can add the Android Enterprise product to the admin console and confirm the binding with the EMM.
    Using an unmanaged Google account
If you have a custom email address, that is, a Google account with a non-Gmail address that is not part of an enterprise, you can convert your account to an enterprise account. The Welcome to Android Enterprise page is displayed after email verification.
    Using your Gmail account
You can use your Gmail account to link your MaaS360 account with Android Enterprise account.
Note: If your organization uses multiple MaaS360 accounts, you must configure each account with a different Gmail account, and use the corresponding Google Play Store to select the Google products that you want to deploy on devices.

You are directed to a Google page where you must select Sign up for Android only to continue using your Gmail account to create a Managed Google Play account.

Your MaaS360 account is connected with your Managed Google Play account. MaaS360 displays the status with a Connected sign and a green checkmark in the Services page.
