Branding options for email configuration

Information about customizing email configuration for your organization.

Note: The following sections use a sample company that is named ACME Corp and display all possible branding options that are customizable for the MaaS360 Portal. Each section provides an explanation of the branding option in the MaaS360 Portal and how the branding affects that option in the Portal.

IBM MaaS360 branding sender email address

The MaaS360 Portal Branding allows a customer to brand the sender email address and name. The sender email address is the email address that sends MaaS360® email messages. The default sender email address is maas360@maas360.ibm.com and the default sender name is MaaS360. You can change this email address to a customized email address from your IT organization or support desk that your users recognize. In this example, the default sender name is changed to the ACME Mobility Team and the default email address is changed to support@acmecorp.com.

The following table displays the difference between the standard version and the sample branded version of the sender email address (support@acmecorp.com) and the sender name (ACME Mobility Team):
Standard version of sender email address and sender name Sample of branded version of sender email address and sender name

This customized branding allows the MaaS360 Portal email relay server to send email messages on behalf of your domain. To ensure proper email delivery, you should change your domain SPF record. This topic further explains how to create and modify SPF records that are needed to complete this branding setup.
Note: If you do not complete these branding setups, the MaaS360 Portal relay servers might be blocked by service providers and sent email messages might not reach administrators and users.
Creating customer SPF records to include in the MaaS360 Portal email relay servers

To ensure successful email delivery when using your own domain email address, an SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is needed. An SPF record is a type of DNS record that designates which email servers are allowed to send email messages on behalf of your domain. Without these records, email messages might not be delivered or might be marked as spam.

An SPF record is a TXT DNS record that looks similar to v=spf1 mx include:maila.m1.maas360.com include:mailb.m1.maas360.com ~all. The following table explains the values in an SPF record:
Value Description
v=spf1 The version of the SPF that is in use.
mx The domain's MX record can send email messages.
include:maila.m1.maas360.com and include:mailb.m1.maas360.com The authorized email relay servers.
~all The servers that are not listed in the SPF record that cannot send email messages on behalf of the domain. A mail server that receives email messages from a server that is not listed in this record handles the mail according to its own server policy

The following example displays the branding for the sender email messages in the M1 Portal instance by DNS name: v=spf1 mx include:maila.m1.maas360.com include:mailb.m1.maas360.com ~all
