Revoking license entitlements from a device in an Inactive or Pending Remove Control state

Administrators can revoke the license entitlements that are assigned to a device that is in an Inactive or Pending Remove Control state.

Previously, the license that was assigned to a device remained assigned even if the device moved to an inactive state, which was considered a license unit consumed by the inactive device. Administrators could not revoke the license from an inactive device if the device did not return to an active state. As a result, the License Overview page displayed the incorrect count for the total license units consumed.

The following scenarios are possible if a device is inactive and the license remains assigned to the device:
  • The administrator hides a device without revoking the license assigned to the device, assuming the license is required when the device becomes active.
  • Android SPS devices where the Remove Control action was taken that are identified as inactive by the MaaS360 Portal cannot be unregistered by the agent.
  • SPS devices that are inactive by the userDeactiveJob action.
  • The administrator takes the Hide action on a device group without revoking the license that is assigned to those devices, and the devices do not return to an active state.

Before you begin

You can only perform the Revoke License Entitlements action on a device in an Inactive or Pending Remove Control state, and has at least one license assigned to it. Administrators can use Advanced Search to filter the devices that satisfy these conditions and then perform Revoke License Entitlements action on the devices obtained from the search result.

Follow these steps to filter devices:

  1. From the MaaS360 Portal Home page, select Devices > Advanced Search. The Advanced Search page is displayed.
  2. To search for devices, configure the following options:
    • To filter devices with the Inactive status:
      Search results
    • To filter devices with the Pending Remove Control status:
      Search results
  3. Click Search. The devices that match the configured criteria are filtered and the results are displayed on the page.

Procedure

You can revoke license entitlements assigned to one device at a time. Follow these steps to revoke license entitlements from a device that is in an Inactive or Pending Remove Control state:

  1. From the Device Inventory, click the View option that is displayed below the device name. The Device Summary page is displayed.
  2. Click More in the upper-right corner and then select Revoke License Entitlements.
Note: The Revoke License Entitlements option is only displayed if the device has a license assigned to it.

A warning message is displayed that indicates if the license entitlements are revoked. Administrators must reenroll the device to MaaS360 using the Add Device workflow to assign licenses to the device.

  3. Click Confirm to proceed. The licenses assigned to the device are revoked.
