Network Slicing

For iOS version 17 and later, the ability to assign specific network slices to managed apps on their provider’s 5G Standalone network is offered to organizations. This ability causes all traffic for a designated managed app to be routed to the slice identified by a specified data network name (DNN). The iOS Devices with iOS 18 and later have the ability for a designated managed app to be routed to the slice identified by an App Category.

Network Slicing settings

From the IBM® MaaS360® Portal, the administrator can setup the Network slicing for any iOS policy to create and define the network slices. Select the policy and go to Device Settings > Network Slicing > Configure Network Slicing.

The administrator can assign the 5G Network Slice to a managed app by using the Data Network Name (DNN) or AppCategory name that is provided by the network provider. The network slice must begin with either DNN: or AppCategory:.

The following table describes the Network Slicing settings that you can configure for an iOS device.
