Device Management

The Device Management settings enforce actions on Android devices.

Disable device management actions

The following table describes the actions that you can configure on an Android device:
Policy setting Description Supported devices
Do not allow user to disable device management If this setting is enabled in the policy, the Remove MDM Control option is removed from the MaaS360® app.

Note: The Remove MDM Control option is available in the device settings for all devices, except SAFE 2.0+ and LG 1.0+.

Android 2.2+
Prompt user for additional device management permissions The user is prompted to request administrator permissions for additional device management actions.

For example, during Android OS upgrades, the user is prompted to include administrator permissions.

Warning message after disabling device management The message that is displayed on the device screen when device management is disabled.

Type a few characters and then select the locale from the list. You can also choose converted text for all supported locales.

Enforcement action after disabling device management The actions that are taken on a device when device management is disabled:
  • Selective Wipe: The profiles that are configured on the device are removed.
  • Do Nothing: No action is taken on the device. All profiles that are configured from policies remain configured on the device even after the MDM agent is removed as the device administrator.
  • Lock Device: The device is locked.
  • Wipe Device: All the data on the device is erased.

Enforcement actions

The following table describes the enforcement actions that you can configure on an Android device:

Defined inactivity time limit before device is out of compliance (1 - 1440 minutes) The number of minutes a device can remain inactive until an enforcement action is applied. Android 2.2+
Action when out of compliance The actions that are taken on the device when the device is out of compliance:
  • Selective Wipe: The profiles that are configured on the device are removed.
  • Lock Device: The device is locked.
  • Wipe Device: All the data on the device is erased.
  • Block Device Mail: Email messages on the device are blocked.

    This action requires integration with your enterprise email system. Integration with Exchange and IBM® Traveler uses the MaaS360 Cloud Extender®. This setting supports only Android MDM App 5.21+ devices.

Other settings

The following table describes additional settings that you can configure on an Android device:

Do not prompt user for remote control The device can be accessed remotely without permission from the user of the device. Android L+ or SAFE 2.1+

Application timers

The following table describes the application timers that you can configure on an Android device:

Data collection frequency (in minutes) The number of times that data is collected within a certain amount of time. The minimum allowed value is 60 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to collect data.

Android 2.2+
Device heartbeat frequency (in minutes) The amount time that is allowed before a device sends another heartbeat. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to send the heartbeat.

Android 2.2+
Usage data collection frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device collects data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to collect data.

Android 2.2+
Usage data upload frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device uploads data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to upload data.

Android 2.2+
Location data collection frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device sends its location data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to send location data.
