Device Management

The Device Management settings enforce actions on Android devices.

Disable device management actions

The following table describes the actions that you can configure on a device:
Policy setting Description Supported devices
Do not allow user to disable device management If this setting is enabled, the Remove MDM Control option is removed from the MaaS360® app. Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Enable MDM service hardening If this setting is enabled, the user cannot stop MDM services on a device. Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Warning message after disabling device management The message that is displayed on the device screen when device management is disabled.

Type a few characters and then select the locale from the list. You can also choose converted text for all supported locales.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO

Enforcement actions

The following table describes the enforcement actions that you can configure on a device:
Policy setting Description Supported devices
Defined inactivity time limit before device is out of compliance (1 - 1440 minutes) The number of minutes a device can remain inactive until an enforcement action is applied. Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Action when out of compliance The actions that are taken on the device when the device is out of compliance:
  • Selective Wipe: The profiles that are configured on the device are removed.
  • Lock Device: The device is locked.
  • Wipe Device: All the data on the device is erased.
  • Block Device Mail: Email messages on the device are blocked.
Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Do not prompt user for remote control The device can be accessed remotely without permission from the user of the device.

This feature is being deprecated. For remote support, including unattended access, contact your MaaS360 account representative about the TeamViewer integration.

Application timers

The following table describes the application timers that you can configure on a device:
Policy setting Description Supported devices
Data collection frequency (in minutes) The number of times that data is collected within a certain amount of time. The minimum allowed value is 60 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to collect data.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Device heartbeat frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device sends another heartbeat. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to send the heartbeat.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Use strict scheduler for device heartbeat and payloads Device heartbeat behavior when this policy is turned on:

MaaS360 uses Job Scheduler by default to execute background tasks such as reporting the device heartbeat to the MaaS360 Portal. If this setting is enabled, MaaS360 uses the Alarm Manager, a stricter scheduler to execute background tasks. Alarm Manager executes a job at the scheduled time even though a device is inactive, resulting in a battery drain. Job Scheduler is optimized by the operating system to perform tasks when the device is charging, idle, or connected to a network.

Device payloads behavior when this policy is turned on:

The payloads upload timer strictly follows the value defined in the Data Collection Frequency policy setting.

Android 5.0+ (PO & DO)
Usage data collection frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device collects data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to collect data.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Usage data upload frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device uploads data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to upload data.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Location data collection frequency (in minutes) The amount of time that is allowed before a device sends its location data again. The minimum allowed value is 15 minutes.

If you reduce this value, the device uses more battery power to send location data.

Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Location data collection frequency for geo-fencing The amount of time that is allowed before a device sends its location data according to specific geo-fencing rules. Android 5.0+ PO and DO
Allow data upload as per configured frequency while roaming A device can report its location data when the device is in a roaming state. Android 5.0+ PO and DO
