ActiveSync

The ActiveSync settings allow Android devices that are managed by MaaS360® to synchronize data with a configured mailbox account.

Note: The ActiveSync policy is supported on TouchDown, SAFE 2.0+, and Motorola EDM 3.0+ devices only.

ActiveSync settings

The following table describes the ActiveSync settings that you can configure on an Android device:

Host name of the server	The name of the server that connects to the device.	TouchDown and SAFE 2.0+
Use SSL	Check this setting if the Exchange server uses SSL for authentication.	TouchDown and SAFE 2.0+
Account	The details about the account from the following options: Use device enrollment credentials Prompt user for credentials Administrator specified Domain Name: Enter `domain name` or use `%domain%` for the user's domain, or leave the field blank to use the user's domain name. Account Username: Enter `%email%` to use the username account or email address, or leave the field blank to use the user name in the system.	TouchDown and SAFE 2.0+
Identity certificate	The identity certificate that is used to synchronize account configurations. You can add certificates from Security > Policies > Advanced Settings > Certificates.	TouchDown or SAFE 2.1+
SMIME signing certificate	The S/MIME signing certificate that is used to validate mail accounts. This certificate ensures that data is received only from accounts that use signed certificates. You can add certificates from Security > Policies > Advanced Settings > Certificates.	TouchDown or SAFE 4.0+
SMIME encryption certificate	The S/MIME encryption certificate that is used to decrypt email messages that are sent to the account. You can add certificates from Security > Policies > Advanced Settings > Certificates. Samsung SAFE devices support one certificate for both signing and encryption. If you select different certificates, the signing certificate is also used for encryption.	TouchDown or SAFE 4.0+
Account display name	The name of the ActiveSync account. Choose a unique name that helps identify the account on the device.	SAFE 2.0+
Set as default account	The Exchange account that is used as the default ActiveSync account.	SAFE 2.0+
Accept all certificates	The certificates that are required to connect to the server.	TouchDown or SAFE 2.0+

TouchDown configuration settings

The following table describes the TouchDown settings that you can configure on an Android device:

Security settings

The following table describes the security settings that you can configure on an Android device:

Configure TouchDown passcode	This setting configures the TouchDown passcode: Passcode quality: Choose a numeric, alphanumeric, or complex passcode type. For example, if you set the passcode to alphanumeric, the user can set the TouchDown passcode to either numeric or alphanumeric. Note: Complex passcodes must contain at least one special character. Minimum passcode length (4 - 16 characters): The minimum length that is allowed for the passcode ranges from 4 - 16 characters. Maximum passcode age (in days): The number of days that pass before the user is prompted to change their passcode. Allowed idle time (in minutes) before auto-lock (1 - 60 minutes): The amount of time that a device can remain inactive until the device is automatically locked. Leave this field blank to prevent the device from locking automatically. Number of unique passcodes required before reuse allowed (1 - 50): The number of times before a passcode that was used previously can be used again. Number of failed passcode attempts before all data is erased (4 - 16): The number of failed passcode attempts that are allowed on a device before all data is erased from the device. Set the value to 4 - 16 attempts or leave the field blank to prevent data from being erased from the device.	TouchDown
Suppress TouchDown specific passcode policy enforced via ActiveSync	The device-specific passcode policies that are enforced by TouchDown during ActiveSync are suppressed.	TouchDown
Encrypt emails	Email messages are encrypted on the device.	TouchDown
Encrypt attachments	Attachments are encrypted on the device.	TouchDown
Allow backup of emails and settings	Email messages and account settings are backed up on the TouchDown server.	TouchDown
Disable copy of Contacts to phone	The phone contacts cannot be copied from the device.	TouchDown
Disable copy-paste from email	Email messages cannot be copied or pasted from the device.	TouchDown
Device type reported in Exchange server	The name of a device as it appears at the server level.	TouchDown
Prevent moving mails to other accounts	Emails messages cannot be moved from email accounts on the device to other ActiveSync accounts.	SAFE 2.1+

Other settings

The following table describes additional settings that you can configure on an Android device:

Allow HTML formatted email	Email messages can be formatted in HTML.	TouchDown
Maximum email size (KB)	The maximum allowed size (in KB) for an email message. Values range from 0 - 100 or leave the field blank if you do not want to limit the size of the email message. Any email messages that exceed the allowed size are truncated.	TouchDown or SAFE 2.1+
Include past emails for selected date range	The email messages that are stored on a device from a certain time period. Options are: all email messages 1 day 3 days 1 week 2 weeks 1 month	TouchDown or SAFE 2.0+
Include past calendar items for selected date range	The calendar entries that are stored on a device from a certain time period. Options are: 2 weeks 1 month 3 months 6 months	TouchDown or SAFE 2.1+
Allow attachments	Attachments can be enclosed in email messages. Maximum attachment size (KB): The maximum size (in KB) that is allowed for an enclosed attachment. Leave the field blank to accept all enclosed attachments at any size.	TouchDown
Sync Contacts	Phone contacts from an Exchange account are synchronized with a personal device.	SAFE 2.1+
Sync calendar	The calendar entries from an Exchange account are synchronized with a personal device.	SAFE 2.1+
Sync tasks	Tasks on a personal device are synchronized.	SAFE 2.1+
Sync notes	Notes on a personal device are synchronized. This policy setting is supported on Exchange 2010 accounts and later.	SAFE 2.1+
Email signature	The user can create a personal signature at the end of an email message.	TouchDown or SAFE 2.0+
Allow user to change email signature	The user can edit the personal signature at the end of an email message.	TouchDown
Manual sync when roaming	The user can synchronize a device with an Exchange account by issuing a manual trigger. However, synchronizing the device automatically with an Exchange account is disabled.	TouchDown or SAFE 2.1+
Enable TouchDown widgets	The device can use TouchDown widgets.	TouchDown
Always vibrate on new email notification	The device vibrates and notifies a user when the user receives a new email message.	SAFE 2.0+
Vibrate on new email notification if device is silent	If the device is in silent mode, the device vibrates and notifies a user when the user receives a new email message.	SAFE 2.0+

Generic TouchDown policy settings

The following table describes the generic TouchDown policy settings that you can configure on an Android device:
