Summary

Measurements were taken using a workload that generated four I/O types: Sequential read, sequential write, random read, and random write. The V7000 utilized for these measurements provided only FCP or iSCSI storage access. For NFS and SMB we needed an additional protocol server to access the disk via FCP and export them via the different network protocols.

The protocol server provided an additional 64 GiB page cache, which increases the caching capacity of the whole system significantly. We can see this impact especially for the sequential workloads. So far, for these workloads the comparison has to be read with some caution, especially at the high end of the workload.
