Setting up the virtual network
The z/VM® virtual machines were connected to a Virtual Switch (VSWITCH) configured LAN for guest-to-guest communication.
A 10 GbE OSA-Express®4 was also connected to the VSWITCH and the virtual machines connected to the VSWITCH share the same LAN as the OSA Express card. This allowed the configuration of virtual machine IP addresses from the same network as for the OSA Express card.
For a z/VM virtualized environment, the VSWITCH provides good performance and is the recommended method for internal and external z/VM network connectivity.
