Test sequence
For each test variation, the sequence of major control steps described in this section was performed.
The steps were as follows:
- The z/VMs on both test LPARs are IPLed as the only LPARs running on the CEC.
- The ISFC logical link between the z/VM® members is reconfigured according to the requirements of the test variation
- Monitoring is started
- The guest used for the test is started on one z/VM
- The workload is started within the Linux™ guest operating system with a 10 minutes runtime
- The workload execution is allowed to stabilize, in order to produce a comparable processor and memory usage pattern
- After 7 minutes, the guest virtual machine is relocated to the other z/VM, while continuing to execute the workload
- After the termination of the workload the test ends.
- Data gathered from each run:
- Workload specific performance data (e.g. throughput)
- z/VM monitor data
- Linux syststat tool output (sadc/sar)
