Modify logging setup

The purpose of these test runs was to show the impact of modifying the database logging setup of DB2® on Linux®.

Observations

The setup with the three larger log files has a 5% lower transaction throughput. The CPU utilization goes down in the same manner.

Conclusion

Unexpectedly, the setup with many small files gets higher transaction throughput even though we have more log switches, and accordingly, higher processor utilization. One explanation could be that the log switch for the larger file takes a disproportionate amount of time versus the smaller file. Therefore, for our remaining tests we kept the log setup with the many small files.
