HMC media device driver
![]()
You use the HMC media device driver to access files on removable media at a system that runs the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
Before you begin: You must log in to the HMC on the system with the
removable media and assign the media to the LPAR.
As of System z10®, the HMC media device driver supports the following removable media:
- A DVD in the DVD drive of the HMC system
- A CD in the DVD drive of the HMC system
- USB-attached storage that is plugged into the HMC system
The HMC media device driver uses the /dev/hmcdrv
device node to support these capabilities:
- List the media contents with the
lshmccommand. - Mount the media contents as a file system with the
hmcdrvfscommand.
Installers on suitably prepared installation DVDs can use these capabilities to install Linux® in an LPAR.
