About this publication
This paper provides an overview of the SSL performance for the encrypted communication with an IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) exploiting IBM® System z® cryptographic hardware features.
- The first scenario describes a WAS-only setup
- The second scenario involves an IBM HTTP server (IHS) as HTTP transport service for WAS
The focus of this white paper is on the support and setup of IBM System z cryptographic hardware features for both scenarios. The SSL performance results for an online stock trading benchmark application are also discussed.

Remarks
IBM online information center Web links that point to specific application documentation chapters are very long. Therefore the following notation is used in this white paper. The Web link points to the top level site of the application documentation and the navigator below the Web link indicates the path to a specific topic.
