Linux on IBM z14 (z14) Performance Evaluation
Presentation abstract
With the z14 being available, this article sheds light on the Linux performance enhancements of the new IBM mainframe. Without applying any z14-specific tunings, a wide range of benchmark results are presented covering LPAR, z/VM guest and KVM guest.
The suite of benchmarks is ranging from micro-benchmarks to complex real-life scenarios comparing the machine's performance in areas such as processor- and memory-intense workloads, single and multi process, or multi-processor scalability tests. The measurements span the Linux kernel, the memory subsystem including cache hierarchy, network, disk I/O, Java, crypto and databases. Special focus is put on how customer applications might benefit from the improvements unveiled by various benchmarks.

Linux Performance on IBM zEnterprise 196 (Webcast)
Live Virtual Class abstract
This technical webcast is a Linux performance comparison between the zEnterprise 196 and z10 using CPU and memory intense workloads, using single process, multi process, multi processor, and scalability testcases. It also reviews how the new numbers compare to those of the migration from z9 to z10 two years ago.
