WebSphere Load Balancer
The dispatcher component of WebSphere Load Balancer was used for our WebSphere Application Server environment test runs.
WebSphere® Load
Balancer consists of the following five components that can be used separately
or together:
- Dispatcher
- Content based routing (CBS) for HTTP and HTTPS
- Site Selector
- Cisco CSS Controller
- Nortel Alteon Controller
For the environment in this study, only the WebSphere Load Balancer dispatcher component was used. The dispatcher component distributes the load it receives to servers contained in a cluster (a set of servers that run the same application and can provide the same content to its clients). This mechanism is also known as IP spraying. When the environment contained only one Web server, no IP spraying occurred. See WebSphere Load Balancer setup for the configuration file used for the WebSphere Load Balancer.
