Both LPARs were installed with a Fedora 23 driver, which contained:

  • Linux® kernel v4.4.0
  • QEMU v2.8.0
  • libvirtd v3.0.0
  • Open vSwitch v2.5.0

On the KVM host (first LPAR), a single KVM virtual machine or guest was defined, configured and installed with the SLES12 SP2 operating system.

These software levels were used to conduct performance measurements for both the OSA and HiperSockets™ configurations.

The HiperSockets configuration did require some additional setup and configuration steps to instantiate the Open vSwitch bridge, to provide a different KVM guest virtual network definition and provide additional routing rules to direct or steer the desired network traffic across the HiperSockets link.
