PCIe3 FPGA (EJ12/EJ13) Compression Accelerator Adapter

The PCIe3 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Compression Accelerator Adapter (FC EJ12/EJ13; CCIN 59AB) is the same adapter with different feature codes.

The FC EJ13 adapter is a low-profile adapter and the FC EJ12 adapter is a full-height adapter. This version of the adapter is implemented as regular PCIe card. It does not use the CAPI (Coherently Attached Processor Interface) from IBM

Supported Operating systems

The adapter is supported on the following Linux distributions:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 for Power Systems 64-bit
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 for Power Systems 64-bit Little Endian
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 for Power Systems 64-bit Little Endian
The PCIe Compression adapter supports PCIe pass-through.

Linux driver installation

To operate the PCIe version of the adapter, the Generic Work Queue Engine (GenWQE) Linux device driver is required. The driver is integrated in RHEL7.2 and later. To use the adapter with RHEL7.0 and RHEL7.1, install the separately packaged driver:

Software installation

You can download the latest version of the software packages that are required to use the adapter from the IBM Service and Productivity Tools website.

To use the PCIe3 FPGA Compression Accelerator Adapter, install the following software packages:
  • Hardware accelerated zlib: genwqe-zlib
  • Tools to analyze adapter function and hardware accelerated genwqe_gzip and genwqe_gunzip: genwqe-tools
If you want to use the hardware accelerator together with IBM® SDK for JAVATM, download and install IBM® SDK for Java™ 7.1 on your system.
