Using a DASD dump device

To use a DASD dump device, you need to install the stand-alone CCW DASD dump tool and perform the dump process. Then, copy the dump to a file in a Linux® file system.

DASD dumps are written directly to a DASD partition that is not formatted with a file system. Model 3390 DASDs are supported for both ECKD and FBA.

The CCW DASD stand-alone dump tool automatically compresses dumps when the DFLTCC facility is available on the system. Compressing decreases system downtime during dumping and saves DASD space.
