Use this procedure if your License Metric Tool
environment consists of components in versions that do not allow for upgrading straight to the
latest application update of License Metric Tool. For example,
if you use DB2 10.5 or the License Metric Tool server is
installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Before you begin
- Before you start the procedure, prepare the following information.
- Version of the License Metric Tool server.
- Version of the BigFix® server.
- Version of the DB2 database and information whether it is shared between the License Metric Tool server and the BigFix server.
- Version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on which the License Metric Tool server is installed.
- It is advisable to run the import of data in License Metric Tool after every upgrade of each component that you
perform as part of this procedure: the operating system, the License Metric Tool server, the BigFix server, and the database.
- This procedure describes the upgrade path for environments where the License Metric Tool server and BigFix server coexist on the same server machine and share
DB2. If the License Metric Tool server and BigFix server are separated, then steps related to the
BigFix are optional. However, if they are
followed, then steps related to the operating system on which License Metric Tool server is installed need to be applied as well to
the operating system on which BigFix server is
installed and steps related to DB2 need to be applied to both instances of DB2.
Procedure
- Back up the environment. For more information, see the following links:
Tip: It is advisable to back up the License Metric Tool server and the BigFix server before every upgrade of these components that
you perform as part of this procedure.
- If you use DB2 in version lower than 10.5 FP5, upgrade DB2 to the latest fix pack for
version 10.5. Do not upgrade it to version 11.1 nor 11.5.
- If the License Metric Tool server is in version lower than 9.2.24.0, upgrade
it to version 9.2.24.0.
- If the server is in version 9.2.15.0 or lower, upgrade it to version 9.2.18.0. Then, upgrade
it to version 9.2.24.0.
- If the server is in version between 9.2.16.0 and 9.2.23.0, upgrade it to version
9.2.24.0.
- Download the installer from the Fix Central.
- Extract the installer.
- Run the upgrade in interactive or silent mode.
- To run the upgrade in interactive mode, perform the following steps.
- Run the setup-server-linux-x86_64.sh script.
- Follow instructions in the installation wizard.
- When the upgrade completes, click Done.
- To run the upgrade in silent mode, perform the following steps.
- Go to the licenses subfolder and read the license agreements
in the following files: LA_<language>,
LI_<language>, non_ibm_license,
notices.
- Edit the upgrade_response.txt file. Set the
RSP_LICENSE_ACCEPTED parameter to true.
- To start the upgrade, run the following command: ./setup-server-linux-x86_64.sh -i
silent -f /response_file_path/upgrade_response.txt.
For response_file_path, enter the absolute path to the response file. For
example:
./setup-server-linux-x86_64.sh -i silent -f /root/images/LMT/upgrade_response.txt
- Log in to License Metric Tool and
perform the following steps.
- If the panel for updating the database schema is displayed, click Update
Schema.
- Go to , and click Import Now.
- If you need to install multiple intermediate versions, repeat steps 3.a to 3.d for the remaining versions.
- Follow the steps specific for the version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on which the
License Metric Tool server is installed.
- If the License Metric Tool server is installed on Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or you want to move the server to a new machine with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
8, migrate the environment to the following setup:
For more information, see: Migrating all License Metric Tool server components to a different computer (BigFix scenario).
- If the License Metric Tool server is installed on Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x or higher, perform the following steps.
- If the License Metric Tool server is installed on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux lower than 7.6, upgrade the operating system to the latest 7.x release. For more
information, see: How do I apply package updates to my RHEL system?
- If the BigFix server is in version lower than
9.5 patch 17, upgrade the BigFix server to the
latest 9.5 patch. Do not upgrade the BigFix server
to version 10.0 nor 11.0.
- If the BigFix server is in version lower than
9.2 patch 3, upgrade the server to the latest patch of version 9.2. Then, upgrade it to the latest
patch of version 9.5.
- If the BigFix server is in version between 9.2
patch 3 and 9.5 patch 16, upgrade the server to the latest patch of version 9.5.
