Using VM Manager Tool by unprivileged users
By default, using the VM Manager Tool requires root or administrative privileges. To use the VM Manager Tool by an unprivileged user, you need to deploy the tool in disconnected mode.
Scenario 1: Using privileged user only during installation and upgrade
In this scenario, you install the distributed VM Manager Tool. Capacity scans are automatically scheduled to run every 30 minutes to fulfill requirements of
subcapacity licensing. Root or administrative privileges are required to run only the following commands.
- -install
- -remove
-run
Scenario 2: Always using unprivileged user
In this scenario, you run the VM Manager Tool without installing it. Capacity scans are not scheduled. To retrieve VM manager data, you need to run the following command every 30 minutes to fulfill requirements of subcapacity licensing. The command starts the VM Manager Tool, collects data from all defined VM managers, and closes the tool. It does not schedule regular scans as in case of installed VM Manager Tool.
Run the command by an unprivileged user with execute and write permission to the directory where the VM Manager Tool is installed.
